What are the characteristics of zinc anode

29th Sep, 2025

In the industrial sector, various types of anti-corrosion materials play a significant role. Zinc anodes offer excellent performance characteristics, but some may not fully understand their specific features. Therefore, we need to understand their specific characteristics. Below is a detailed introduction.

According to regional experts specializing in the research, development, and production of aluminum alloy anodes, zinc anodes offer excellent mechanical properties in practical applications. Strip zinc anodes are primarily used for protecting pipes within casing, temporary cathodic protection of pipes, protection of storage tanks and pipeline networks, and preventing AC interference and lightning interference from high-voltage lines on buried pipelines.

In modern anti-corrosion material production, strip zinc anodes are typically used in media with resistivities below 2000Ω·cm. If the steel structure being protected has a good coating or the soil is moist, they can be used in media with resistivities above 2000Ω·cm.

Specifically, zinc alloy sacrificial anodes (zinc anodes) are primarily used for cathodic protection of steel structures such as ships, port facilities, offshore engineering, buried metal pipelines, storage tanks, and seawater cooling systems. The product's specific features are primarily reflected in the following aspects:

1. Uniform current distribution and high current efficiency exceeding 95%;

2. Adaptable to environments with higher resistivity;

3. Able to penetrate narrow local areas and difficult environments, offering greater flexibility;

4. Low resistance to ground per unit weight and high current;

5. Low resistance to ground per unit weight and high current;

6. Can serve as a grounding electrode, discharging AC and lightning, protecting equipment and personnel.

7. No external power supply is required; the strip has a continuous conductive core and minimal electrical connections. Zinc strip anodes can be used in freshwater and seawater environments, and can also be used in buried structures.

8. Zinc strip anodes offer excellent flexibility, are easy to install, and can be easily manufactured in various lengths and shapes, such as spirals and discs. In addition, zinc anodes are suitable for use in ship hulls, subsea valves, ballast tanks, and seawater platforms. They are also often used in submarine pipelines in a ring form, all with excellent results. Our zinc alloy sacrificial anodes are made of high-quality zinc and a variety of components to ensure a large current output and a long service life. The products comply with ASTM-B418, MIL A-1800 I J, GB/T 4948-2002, W standards. We can also manufacture zinc anodes with special chemical compositions according to customer requirements.
